I assume when you say “REAL” walking you are referring to more of the Jazz style, and yes that is more difficult (but no more ‘real’) than the blues style. every Bass player will find his own collection of skills to hone and mold into an individual style. Chords are just as much a tool as Jazz walking, and besides, Walking by it’s very nature uses Chord’s and chord structures, would you agree?

Walking a bass, and I mean REAL walking (not the blues box or anything), is all ready very difficult and time consuming to learn. Again, it isn’t too hard to learn the chords on the bass anyways, but it’s better to learn them mostly so you can do arpeggios

Eh, it doesn’t sound quite as good as a guitar, and it’s not what basses were meant for, I’d recommend spending time learning other things first (like WALKING, which is what the bass does best in swing); although it isn’t too hard to learn the chords anyways.
