The Beatles had an …
The Beatles had an infinite spring of creativity from which to draw from. You had four songwriters with unique styles. They were beyondyour standard guitar/bass/drum/lead guitar format. They played whatever came out of them be it on piano, guitar or mellotron or whatever. If anything, the Stones hated being in second place behind them. And as far as Zeppelin goes, the Beatles were broken up or at the final stages before being broken up when Zeppelin hit it big.

Also you can’t say one band is better than another… you can only pick your own favorites.

@stacy208
You apparently don’t even know what a “melody” is.
The Beatles did …
The Beatles did become more interesting later in their career (e.g. Sgt. Pepper) but then, in the words of Bono, “crawled up their own arses.” I think Bono is being generous in his assessment – The Beatles had shot their load at that point and artistically had dried up. They knew acts like the Stones, The Who, Zep had surpassed them musically so they just faded. No band, other than U2 has managed to keep their artistic standards so high for so long – 30 years!
I am a huge Led …
I am a huge Led Zeppelin fan and celebrate their entire catalouge. The Beatles, not so much. As the first British invasion act, they receive more credit than they deserve. The Beatles spent the majority of their short career turning out insipid melodies (“She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah ….) Yeah, and? Lots of commercials have catchy melodies too; being melodic is only one aspect of music. U2 has melody, mood, depth which is why they are the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time)

@mbcestmoi U2′s …
@mbcestmoi U2′s music has no melody therefore it is crap. The only song i can think of by them with melody would be Virtigo, and even then it is remote to say the least. Most of today’s music has no melody either therefore also crap. Go out and get something like The Beatles or Led Zeppelin man.

… the most …
… the most interesting band. I like some of today’s stuff (e.g. Coldplay, Matt & Kim, etc.) but they simply are not producing epic material. Instead of hurling insults, why don’t you recommend something to me, anything, that can even approximate in an artistic sense The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, etc. I will listen to your recommendation. Don’t get all emo now and start cursing, just do it beyotch!
Typical. When you …
Typical. When you can’t offer a substantive response start insulting people. Remember, this started in response to the comment that “the Edge sucks.” Your response contains the real reason for your animosity and ignorance — You “hate U2″ because of their fans. Not a very good reason to close your mind to arguably the greatest band of all time! 30 years and they are still vital, on the cutting edge, and

@mbcestmoi
Sweet. Label an entire generation, thousands of musicians, all of whom have put their heart and soul into the art they produce, as nothing more than copycats. No wonder I hate U2 so much. Their entire fanbase is made up of dismissive douchebags like you.
I totally love this …
I totally love this scene from the documentary. The music speaks for itself, but his ruminations on top of this classic gives it a certain weight.
“In art it is …
“In art it is usually (emphasis added) foolish to say one thing is better than another ….” “Usually” means in most instances but not always. When someone makes an asinine statement that “the Edge sucks” (which is what I responded to) they need to be called out, especially when they follow that absurdity with the suggestion that Jack White or any other artist of Gen. Copycat can even approach U2′s oeuvre. U2 has been producing original and epic albums for 30 years! C’mon now!
Verses of Ramble On …
Verses of Ramble On, studio version in particular, have that sort of ambiguous Escher quality, the beginnings and endings of bars aren’t really that obvious… wheres the 3rd beat? the fourth? and so on.. but then my sense of bars is rubbish.
>Because they are …
>Because they are demonstrably better, lyrically and musically than anything your generation has produced.
>In art it is usually foolish to say one thing is better than another.
Heed your own advice.
@rolodexroulette – …
@rolodexroulette – no, this is his #1 Les Paul, the #2 has a creme bridge humbucker, and i think on this one there is push/pull pot to make the pickups out of phase, to get like a peter green kind of tone
Your generation …
Your generation always targets U2. Why? Allow me to answer – Because they are demonstrably better, lyrically and musically than anything your generation has produced. Hopefully your age group will produce something other than emo ballads and sampling music of previous generations. In art it is usually foolish to say one thing is better than another. However, by any objective standard, your generation has not produced a Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby. Even Jack White knows that – smarten up!
im 99.99% sure …
im 99.99% sure that’s the LP2. the reason why i say that is because the change of sound seems to be coming from his push pull pot knob even though the camera doesn’t show it, you can see his arm fidgeting for a second with something down there.
also, the “damages” (replications) are that of a LP2 in my eyes

I wish Hendrix was alive. Page Hendrix & Gilmore would be a great doco, and a much more even match up of musicians too.
This player is …
This player is better than that player…bla, bla, bla. It is art you idiots. An expression of a feeling. Listen to the man and learn. The three of them are absolutely amazing musicians. Page, what can you say. A whisper to the thunder, absolutely. What a soulful man. The Edge, he pushed it in a new direction. Jack White, that boy seeps the blues. Listen, learn your craft. fools. Some people just don’t. What you are seeing and hearing is the products of 10,000′s of hours of work.
