Today they will show you how Guitar Strings are Made!

A string is the vibrating element that is the source of vibration in string instruments, such as the guitar, harp, piano, and members of the violin family. They are lengths of a flexible material kept under tension so that they may freely vibrate. Strings may be “plain” (consisting only of a single material, like steel, nylon, or gut) or they may have a core of one material with an overwinding of other materials to add mass so the string sounds the desired pitch, while keeping the string thin and flexible enough to play. Such strings are called “wound strings.”

    Ernie Ball does, at …
Ernie Ball does, at least I assume, they started making strings ’cause beginners had a hard time bending the 3rd string on electric guitars ’cause it was wound then, so they started making unwound 3rd strings. So they must make their own.

  • itzed:

    Yep, these are …
Yep, these are D’Addario. Does anyone know how many people really make their own strings? I heard that there’s really only two factories. Does Fender make their own?

  • donnk:

    if guitar strings …
if guitar strings do rust from being handled during manufacturing, then they are obviously not good enough for regular usage, and hence not good enough….to be guitar strings.

    just sayin’~

    I love how he …
I love how he points out a scientific explanation to how it might be possible for the strings to corrode during the manufacturing process and you respond to it with bullshit hypothetical theories.

  • digitalharassment:

    It doesn’t matter …
It doesn’t matter when a person touches a guitar string. They are made to be handled by humans. It’s not like the guitar strings are thinking to themselves, “OH! we’re being handled without gloves and we’re not even on a guitar yet! Let’s corrode!” or something of the sort. I mean it’s not like they’re doing pick scrapes on the strings with a sharpened metal pick or something.

  • belligerentexistence:

    yeah but when you …
yeah but when you are MANUFACTURING guitar strings you do not want anything that will rust or corrode the strings such as the oil and natural chemicals on your hands. I never said people who play guitar should wear gloves.

  • digitalharassment:

    Guitars were meant …
Guitars were meant to be played by human hands. People don’t normally wear gloves when they play the guitar.
