@4evergreendayfan The D string is under high tension because it is basically a bass string, depening on the strings you use. It also has the least winding in relation to its tension (wound strings have winding around a single core unlike the 3 high end strings which just have a core) and because it is the thinnest string before the unwound strings, it has a lower breaking tension which means it breaks more easily. The G or D usually break first and that is usually time to consider new strings. x

@ErIcoAwEsoMo basically when you break one. Or if you want to change the sound a bit (heavier strings for an elec.). Or in the case of my classic, when the strings are so old they don’t sound so good any more (those strings were like 20 years old).

in my opinion every couple of months. usually the strings kinda gets dirty or rusty or the sound isnt the same. you could also change strings for different sound.

If you play often, like for an hour every day, you should change them every few weeks. If you play them every other day or even less than that, change them maybe every month-month and a half. Depends on a few things, like brands, amount of playing, etc.
I’m only talking about metal guitar strings though, not nylon.
