If you dream of taking up a Guitar in your hands, you need to learn some basics of playing a Guitar. It’s a difficult phase as you would rather wish to play beautiful songs as soon as you get your hands onto the guitar. After all, with all of the MTV influence out there, one would wish to become a rock star. But to learn a guitar, you have to learn the basics of playing it. Learning the basics will take some time and if you take a bit more of the time then this is an indication of you to become a better guitarist later on. After all, every famous guitarist would have learnt the basics of playing the guitar at some point in time.
Learning the guitar basics involves different things including the scales, the fingering etc but the most important thing is the need to learn all of the different parts of the guitar. Firstly you need to understand the composition of guitar body. The guitar body is the large wooden part of the guitar. The body of a guitar is connected by a thin part called the neck. Near the hole of the guitar body, the bridge is located. The strings of the guitar begin at the bridge and end at the pegs, which is located on the head of the guitar.
There are small metal pieces called the frets that are located at various intervals along the neck of the guitar. As soon as the player presses the strings into the frets at various intervals, the strings vibrate and produce different pitches. The other thing you need to learn as the guitar basics is how to hold a guitar. If you are right handed, then your right hand would be used on the body of the guitar and your left hand will hold the neck of the guitar. So you will use your left hand to hold the neck and press the strings into the frets at different intervals while you will use your right hand for strumming. And if you are left handed, then you will reverse the position described for the right handed person.
It is important to understand that spending more time on learning the basics will produce the better guitarist out of you. That is the key that will make you achieve success rather than failure. You got to walk before you can run…

Go to your local music store and ask around for someone to give you guitar lessons. It helps a lot when somone is there instead of just going online.

ok first of all do not get online lessons get regular lessons because online is crap and second of all start playing a squier strat and when your good enough then buy a really nice guitar or bug your parents until they get you one(i did this and now i have a $1100 BC Rich mockingbird)after you get good then you can think about starting a band

No! not on line! The best way is to start from a scratch and learn to read notes before anything else! And take private lessons, from a friend or a tutorial or something =)

You have to be very dedicated to the guitar if you want to learn it. It is very difficult and frustrating at the beginning and most begginers quit right away.
If you are serious, go out and buy a cheap acoustic guitar. Then name your guitar (I always do this for some superstitious reason) lol
It wouldn't be a bad idea to pick a couple of lessons up from someone who knows what they're doing. I never did though, but thats your choice.
When I got my first guitar, the first thing I learned how to do was play simple songs through tabs. Tabs are VERRRY easy to learn to read. Heres a link to a good tutorial. http://guitar.about.com/library/blhowtor…
Once you learn a couple songs maybe like jingle bells or smoke on the water, move onto chords.
There are many online videos that teach the guitar on youtube so I recommend checking that out. Of course these aren't nearly as good as having a teacher in person.
Good luck and stick with it! Guitar is a very fun instrument, but it takes time and practice.

Good starting point is taking lessons from a good teacher and practicing a lot. Think of it this way, if you're going to write childrens books, you have to learn how to write first. You would learn to write basically any kind of book. Then you would focus the talent you've so developed on children's books. In other words, you can't just focus on metal, you have to learn to play, then direct what you know to developing a good metal sound. Good luck.

I've taught classical guitar for many years and to me the best way to learn is to have a teacher…but I know that today a lot of students cannot afford them, so the next best thing is to get an online tutor, they also have lots of DVD's, Cd's, videos, and books on the market today…they also have free lessons on the Internet, but I prefer the others, at the end I'll give you some free sites and you be the judge as to why !!!!!!!!
