Learning an instrument – and guitar specifically – can be a wonderful experience that fills you with the joy of achievement. They are especially important, however, for beginners as they break down each song by showing visually the position your fingers must be in for each chord of the song. From this point, practice will help you learn the song without the use of guitar tabs.
If you do read notes, then the use of sheet music can be instrumental in your quest to learn guitar chords. I'm learning to play the guitar and this song is my most favorite song ever and I want it to be the first real song I learn to play.
