i just take off the bridge and keep the strings on then clean around the guitar that way you can just put the bridge back on and not fuss around with tuneing

leave at least 2 strings on, i removed all the strings on my les paul once and now, due to the screw up in the tension, i have horrible fret buzz. Trust me keep some tension on the neck

If you have a Floyd Rose bridge you should keep some strings on, you could take em all off but I always keep 2 strings left on then clean it, then change em from E-e

i wouldnt worry bout the tenion and just buy some polish that comes with a cloth.(like a lens cleaning cloth and guitar polishing)
