I’m left handed but learnt to play guitar right handed should I change and start playing like a lefty ?
I’m left handed and held a guitar 1st like a lefty. I forced myself to learn guitar right handed and now I’m wondering should I change guitar playing like a lefty?
Yeah. Keep the right one though in case, but it’s generally a normal thing to use a left handed guitar if you are left handed. Look at Jimi Hendrix.
References :
my teacher is a left hand guitarist (ie he strums with his right hand)
he said he wishes he could have learnt how to play it ”normally” because its rare to find left hand guitars and when you do find them they are generally dearer.
EDIT***
sorry i mean he is left hand (ie strums with his left hand & frets with his right)

thats just his opinion do what suits
in all honesty
MOST leftys play holding the guitar as a "righty"
You actually have a small advantage
since you have more dexterity in your left hand
which is the one that does all the fingering
and, as the above post mentioned
you will have a LOT easier time finding guitars

I’m left handed as well and play guitar right handed too. I’m perfectly happy playing the way I’ve been playing for the last 16 years. In fact, I’m glad I learned right handed because most guitars are built for right handed players, it’s made acquiring guitars that I want a lot easier.
It probably would be quite impressive if you learned both, but that’s up to you and whether or not you think you’ll receive some kind of benefit from playing both left and right handed.

Thanks for asking!
no, keep it that way. heaps of musicians (e.g joe strummer) played that way, and they’ve made a living out of guitar.

you should keep playing as you are if it works well for you !

Hello there,
It depends on why you would want to change. Is there a reason you need to change? If so, change. If not, why bother.
I can play either way. Even though I have done that for 40 years, it can be confusing to switch back and force.
There was a time when I hurt my left hand and could not play for over a year. When I started playing again, I played mostly left handed until my right hand finally healed enough. Then I switched back to playing right handed.
For me, I can do more with my left hand than my right, that works better for fingering the guitar. I play almost entirely right handed any more. I can play left handed and did to show a nephew who was left handed how to start playing. Other than that, I find no reason to play guitar left handed.
However, I should add that I always play the bass left handed.

Yeah, there isn’t many lefties out there

I’m NOT left handed but I do have a tendency to do things left handed including playing a guitar when I was learning in the sixties!!!…but, I changed over to right handed believing i was doing it wrong? However!Ive managed to play well above average, playing in several good bands and backed some big names…the only problem I’ve found is when trying to flat pick at speed eg.bluegrass and fast instrumentals?…my right picking hand is slightly lazy and doesnt always catch up to my left hand fingering!…its usually the other way round with most people…I think you should trial some excercises and then make the decision based on dexterity and not let a 10% surcharge on a lefty guitar make the decision for you…

Hi!
I’m left-handed too, and I learned to play right-handed just like you. I switched to play guitar the lefty way too. It felt more comfortable to me, though the first time it felt weird. Whatever feels comfortable to you, do. Left handed feels more comfortable to me, but whatever is comfortable to you.
Hope this helps.
